Rilea Group has broken ground on Mohawk at Wynwood, a mixed-use rental development planned for the seam between Miami’s Wynwood Arts District and Midtown. The project will bring 300 apartments, street-level retail and a pedestrian passageway to 50 NE 29th St. Construction began after a ceremony held Sept. 23, with completion targeted for 2029.
Key takeaways
Mohawk combines two residential towers with nearly 28,000 square feet of retail and a public-facing paseo. Its design blends industrial-inspired materials with fashion- and music-influenced interiors, while its amenities include a rooftop pool and Turkish hammam.
- The development will include 300 studio to three-bedroom apartments in 12- and eight-story towers.
- Retail units will face Northeast 28th and 29th streets and an open-air pedestrian passage.
- Coastal Construction is building the project; financing came from Nuveen Green Capital and ABANCA.
- Rilea Group expects the development to be completed in 2029.
A link between neighboring districts
Located at 50 NE 29th St., Mohawk is part of a three-project cluster involving Rilea Group and development partner Ciprés. Nearby projects include The Rider Residences, a boutique condominium developed with Ciprés, and The Boxer, an eight-story rental building led by the firm. Together, the projects are set to reshape nearly a full city block near Wynwood, Midtown, Edgewater and the Miami Design District.
Rilea Group says Mohawk is about 100 yards from Amazon’s new Miami offices and sits within a corridor where more than $11 billion in real estate development is underway. The company marked the groundbreaking with representatives from the project, construction and finance teams, along with members of the brokerage community.
Industrial materials, expressive interiors
Deforma Studio designed the exterior with inspiration from brick warehouses and factory lofts in cities including Chicago and Brooklyn. Reclaimed brick, dark metal and glass are intended to evoke that industrial history without replicating it literally. Interiors by RADYCA will use art, photography, sculpture and murals to give common areas a more fashion- and rock-and-roll-influenced character.
Retail and residential offerings
The project’s approximately 28,000 square feet of ground-floor retail is divided into units ranging from 642 to 2,544 square feet. Spaces are planned with high ceilings and restaurant-ready infrastructure, while 30-foot sidewalks are intended to accommodate outdoor dining and pedestrian traffic. An open-air, cobblestone paseo will connect Northeast 28th and 29th streets through the site.
About one-third of the retail space is under contract, at a reported blended price of roughly $1,800 per square foot. Earlier in 2026, an international buyer acquired five units for about $14 million in a transaction settled in USDT, which the developer described as Miami’s largest crypto-settled commercial real estate sale.
Apartments will feature tile flooring, Bertazzoni appliances and Dekton surfaces, with select homes offering lanais. Planned amenities include a rooftop pool, padel court, dog park, gym, Turkish hammam, work offices and indoor and outdoor children’s play areas. An enclosed garage will provide 318 parking spaces, with 17 additional on-street spaces nearby.
