While the county’s wealth has surged, leading to record tax assessments for some, many residents struggle to find attainable housing options. Local initiatives are underway to address these pressing issues, aiming to balance economic growth with community affordability.

Several initiatives are underway to make homeownership more accessible. In Boynton Beach, the Cottage District development is transforming vacant land into 41 affordable homes, including townhomes for low-income buyers and single-family homes for moderate-income families. These homes are priced around $301,000, with a modest deposit requirement, aiming to allow essential workers to live in the communities they serve. The county is also offering up to $100,000 through its first-time homebuyer program, which can be used for down payments, closing costs, or construction. This program, structured as a forgivable loan, requires recipients to reside in the home for a specified period. Demand for these programs is exceptionally high, with previous applications being claimed within minutes of opening.
