Griffin’s $1.1 Billion Wynwood Deal Sets Stage for Carnegie Mellon Campus

Ken Griffin has acquired Moishe Mana’s roughly 35-acre Mana Wynwood property portfolio for $1.1 billion, a deal described as the largest land assemblage transaction in Florida history. The site is slated to become Carnegie Mellon University Miami, bringing a major academic and research campus to a neighborhood better known for art, nightlife and redevelopment.

Key takeaways

  • The sale transfers the Mana Wynwood portfolio from developer Moishe Mana to Griffin.
  • Carnegie Mellon plans to begin enrolling Miami students in 2028, with the campus eventually designed for more than 3,500 students.
  • The campus is part of Griffin’s announced $3 billion commitment to the university.

A major acquisition with an academic purpose

The approximately $1.1 billion purchase includes a consolidated 35-acre tract in Wynwood, including the property at 318 NW 23rd Street. Rather than pursuing a conventional mixed-use redevelopment, the plans call for the site to house Carnegie Mellon’s Miami campus.

The commitment includes about $2 billion for establishing the university’s Miami presence, counting the value of the real estate. Construction could start as early as next year, according to the plans outlined in the announcement.

Campus plans and timeline

Carnegie Mellon expects to start enrolling students in Miami in 2028. At full scale, the campus is projected to serve more than 3,500 students, with about 300 faculty members and over 600 staff.

Plans envision research facilities and spaces intended to connect university programs with industry and entrepreneurship. Carnegie Mellon is known for its work in fields including computer science, artificial intelligence, engineering and robotics, though detailed campus design and development schedules were not provided in the available announcement.

Wynwood’s next phase

The portfolio includes the Mana Wynwood complex, anchored by a convention center that has hosted events such as the III Points music festival. The area has been changing from an industrial and arts district into a mixed-use neighborhood, with new housing, offices, hotels, shops and restaurants joining its galleries and event venues.

A large university could add a substantial year-round population and increase demand for nearby housing and businesses. The scale and timing of that effect will depend on the campus’s buildout and the surrounding neighborhood’s ability to accommodate growth.

Griffin had also increased his Wynwood holdings earlier in 2026, acquiring the 545 Wyn office building with Goldman Properties for more than $180 million. The Mana Wynwood purchase adds a different dimension to his Miami investments, linking a major land deal to a long-term educational and research project.
