In an unexpected turn of events, Florida real estate agent Jeaneen Crisante and her husband Tim have transitioned from closing deals to managing an alligator airboat tour business. What began as a search for a retirement property led them to Tom & Jerry’s Airboat Rides on Lake Panasoffkee, a popular local attraction.

A Serendipitous Acquisition

Jeaneen Crisante, a REALTOR® with Showcase Properties of Central Florida, and her husband Tim were initially looking for a retirement development. Their real estate expertise led them to explore businesses where owners might be looking to sell. A chance encounter at Tom & Jerry’s Airboat Rides, a well-known spot on Lake Panasoffkee, led to an astonishingly swift acquisition.

  • The Crisantes took over the business in August 2024, just a month after their initial inquiry.
  • The business includes several alligators, including the namesake Tom and Jerry, along with other reptiles.

Embracing the Wild Side

Neither Crisante had planned on owning an alligator touring company, but they were drawn to the unique opportunity. Lake Panasoffkee, a 9,911-acre park and preserve, is renowned for its outdoor recreation, including birdwatching, hunting, fishing, and its significant alligator population.

Jeaneen expressed fascination with the alligators, noting their distinct personalities and behaviors. She emphasized that while they are wild animals, they recognize regular visitors. The experienced boat captains, who have extensive knowledge of the lake and its inhabitants, are integral to the operation’s success.

Educational Outreach and Future Plans

The Crisantes are committed to expanding the educational aspect of Tom & Jerry’s. Their vision includes developing an education center to promote alligator awareness and conservation, highlighting native species and their environmental impact.

  • Plans are underway to collaborate with schools and tour companies to create educational programs.
  • The center will offer opportunities for visitors to learn about local wildlife and ecosystems.
  • The business aims to provide a unique experience for tourists, including airboat rides and close encounters with animals.

Despite the unconventional nature of their new venture, Jeaneen finds the experience rewarding, expanding her knowledge of the community and its visitors. The couple is excited about the future and the continuous engagement their new business provides.
