Fort Myers High School Star Kendall Guervil Commits to University of Florida
FORT MYERS, Fla. — Kendall Guervil, a standout defensive lineman from Fort Myers High School, has made headlines with his recent commitment to the University of Florida. This four-star recruit made his announcement on Wednesday, opting for the Gators over strong competitors like Texas and Florida State.
Guervil’s Commitment: A Celebration of Support
Standing at an impressive 6-foot-4.5 and weighing 315 pounds, Guervil shared his excitement with teammates, coaches, and family present during the announcement.
"I’d like to take my commitment to the University of Florida,” Guervil declared enthusiastically. “Go Gators!”
The Right Fit: Why Florida?
Guervil’s decision was shaped by a whirlwind recruitment process, which featured over 30 offers. However, it was Gainesville that ultimately felt like home.
- Early Decision: “I knew I wanted to be a Gator three days after the Texas official visit,” he stated.
- Key Factors:
- Academic programs
- Relationships with the coaching staff
- The electrifying atmosphere during home games
“Florida Gator football is great. Playing in The Swamp with 90,000 fans cheering for you is just amazing,” Guervil emphasized.
Proximity also played a crucial role, with the three-hour drive to Gainesville allowing his family easy access to games, enhancing their connection.
A Significant Win for the Gators
Guervil marks a pivotal addition to Florida’s 2026 recruiting class, being their second commitment ranked in the top 100. Currently, he sits at No. 77 overall and is the No. 12 defensive lineman according to 247Sports.
- Coaching Priority: Florida’s head coach, Billy Napier, and his staff showed consistent interest.
“They were checking up on me day and night,” Guervil remarked. “They made it clear they wanted me to be a Gator.”
His commitment comes at a vital time for Florida’s defensive line, especially with players like Desmond Watson and Cam Jackson departing, and Caleb Banks projected as an early NFL draft pick.
“When I get there, I got some shoes to fill in,” Guervil noted.
Coach’s Perspective: A Wise Decision
Sammy Sirianni, head coach at Fort Myers, has witnessed many talented athletes and believes Guervil’s choice is sound.
“The weight of the world was lifted off. He made the decision for the right reason,” Sirianni explained.
Sirianni praised Guervil’s maturity throughout the recruiting process as he evaluated school culture and opportunities.
"He felt at home; the culture matters just as much at the next level,” he added.
One More Season in Green and White
Before donning the iconic orange and blue of Florida, Guervil has one last mission with the Fort Myers Green Wave this upcoming season.
“Just because I committed, I still got to focus on the main goal — my football season,” Guervil asserted.
Expectations are high, as he is expected to take on a leadership role while Fort Myers aims for a deep playoff run.
“He’s not the kind of guy that’s going to coast. He knows he has to improve and is ready to lead,” Sirianni stated.
Over three varsity seasons, Guervil has recorded impressive stats, including:
- 165 tackles
- 24 tackles for loss
- 7.5 sacks
- 4 forced fumbles
Beyond Football: Future Aspirations
While Guervil prepares for his football journey, he has ambitious plans for his academic future.
“I’m planning to major in architecture and want to get my real estate license. One day, maybe I’ll come back and improve Fort Myers," he joked.
Looking Forward
As Guervil gears up for Friday nights under the lights and Saturday afternoons in The Swamp, he reflects on what this journey means for his family.
“It makes my family proud, knowing that I’m pursuing my dreams and playing the game I love,” he concluded.
