The final piece of Jimmy Buffett’s real estate legacy in Palm Beach has been sold, marking the end of a nearly three-decade association with the island. The last of three houses owned by the "Margaritaville" singer when he passed away in September 2023 has found a new owner for $4.2 million.
Buffett’s Palm Beach Footprint Closes
The two-bedroom, 2,660-square-foot house at 135B Root Trail was part of a compound Buffett assembled on the street. This sale concludes Buffett’s extensive real estate dealings on Palm Beach, which began in 1994 with his first home purchase on the island. His widow, along with a representative from a business management firm, signed the deed for the dissolved Florida limited liability company that owned the property.

A New Chapter for Root Trail
The buyer of the Root Trail property is Found Me A Home LLC, managed by attorney Timothy J. Rooney Jr., grandson of the late Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney. Rooney, who already owns a condominium in Palm Beach, plans to use the house to host family visits. He expressed admiration for Buffett’s music and the house’s connection to the beloved singer-songwriter.
A History on Root Trail
Buffett originally purchased the Root Trail house in 2013 for $950,000. It was one of three properties on the street acquired by his company, Sadeca Realty LLC. The house, featuring Key West-style architecture, shares a breezeway with an adjacent property that sold in February for $4.795 million. The three Root Trail houses were listed less than a year after Buffett’s death at age 76.
Buffett’s Palm Beach Real Estate Journey
Buffett’s initial Palm Beach home, purchased in 1994 for $4.4 million, was later sold in 2010 for $18.5 million and subsequently demolished. His portfolio also included properties on South Ocean Boulevard and Garden Road, reflecting a significant investment in the exclusive community.
